Since our last pet-friendly getaway to Beechworth, we’ve been counting down the days to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and retreat to Victoria’s High Country.

This time we packed our bags, tucked Sunny and Ziggy in their plush booster seat, and headed to The Grove Estate – located in the scenic Bright countryside.

A luxurious, artful home with breathtaking views and high-end features made it the perfect pet-friendly retreat to relax and unwind.

The Grove Estate: Pet-Friendly Accommodation in Porepunkah

The location

The Grove Estate is nestled at the foot of Mt Buffalo, in the laidback village of Porepunkah.

Now if you’re like us, when taking your furry family on holiday you’ll want to know there’s dog-friendly activities right on your doorstep!

Surrounded by mountain ranges and forests, with the Ovens River running right through – the good news is that Porepunkah is perfectly positioned to enjoy the best of the region’s beauty with your pup in tow.

If you enjoy an easy nature walk with your dog, there’s the peaceful 2km round-trip Porepunkah River Walk.

There you can stop in at the rustic dog-friendly Rail Trail Café for great coffee and a delicious brunch (tip – get the french toast!)

If wineries are more to your taste, the Ringer Reef in Porepunkah has dog-friendly tables where you can enjoy a local wine and grazing platter.

We felt it was the perfect location because despite its secluded feel, there’s still plenty of dog-friendly things to do – and you’re only a short drive from Bright and its many cafes, shops, and outdoor activities. 

About the property

When it comes to luxury pet-friendly accommodation in Porepunkah, The Grove Estate has it all.

This impressive property is set on a private olive estate, with 360-degree views of the surrounding bushland, valley, and the iconic Mt Buffalo. 

As soon as you step through the front door, you get the immediate sense that considerable thought and effort has gone into making this property a truly unforgettable retreat.

The open-plan living area features soaring ceilings, a huge gourmet kitchen, and floor-to-ceiling windows that showcase the amazing scenery. 

Whether we were enjoying a meal at the dining table, relaxing by the wood fire – or flanked out in front of the massive flat screen TV, the comfort and ambience here is second to none.

The four beautifully curated bedrooms are all super comfortable and stylish, with each room boasting its own unique view and artistic touches.

The bathrooms are equally impressive, with high-end amenities and locally-made soaps adding an extra touch of luxe. 

360-degree views

Ok, about those views that were absolutely a highlight of our trip!

There are two stand-out features of The Grove Estate that capitalise on its elevated position, offering stunning outlooks from different areas of the home. 

The first is an expansive deck that wraps almost the entire way around the home. We loved having slow afternoons on the deck, and watching the sunsets with the boys. Katy even braved the early morning frost to catch a spectacular sunrise.

And if you’re bringing a few people with you on your trip, get ready for a showdown over the upstairs bedroom! This is where you’ll find the second architectural feature that is sure to wow you like it did us.

This upstairs gem will be dark and unassuming when you first enter…but with the flick of a switch, a jaw-dropping 360-degree view reveals itself.

Words really just can’t do justice – you’ve got to see it to believe it.

Dog-friendly amenities

The Grove Estate welcomes dogs as part of the family, which is refreshing to see for such luxury holiday accommodation. 

The outdoor dining area is perfect for enjoying a meal with your pup by your side, and with so much space to explore, they’ll surely be happily exhausted by the end of the day.

Ziggy and Sunny loved exploring the expansive grounds and olive trees, but an important point to note here is the fencing.

Being on a large rural property, much of the wire fencing isn’t dog-proof. For this reason we recommend keeping your dog on lead when outside.
