The bonds we have with our dogs is something not everyone in our lives understand. Staying in to spend time with them, getting up early to play that extra game of fetch…and when they leave us we’d give anything to have just one more moment together.

That’s why when I met Caitlin from Ragamuffin Pet Photography I was intrigued by her personal project completely dedicated to capturing those precious moments with her own dog, Lyra…

From Caitlin:

The alarm clock had buzzed 30 minutes ago, but she was snoring gently beside me and I couldn’t tear myself away. I just wanted to look at her forever. She was curled in the tightest little ball, her scruffy tail tucked around her legs and her bearded chin nuzzled into my arm. I could feel her warm puppy breath against my skin. I should have been dressed and out the door, but life can wait for priceless moments like these.

In just a few sweet months she had taught me the joys of unconditional love and turned my life upside down. Before she was a year old, I quit my career in fashion photography and launched Ragamuffin Pet Photography. Now my whole life is dedicated to celebrating the incredible bond and memories that pet lovers share with their furry family. I owe it all to my Lyra.

So many professional photographers put down the camera when they get home from work, meaning we rarely create beautiful portraits of our own family. I had certainly fallen into this trap, and I felt sad (and a bit guilty) about how irregularly I photographed my girl. More guilt piled on top of that as my business became busier and I lost some of the time I used to spend with my girl. So, at the beginning of 2013 I decided to embark on Lyra’s Project.

Lyra’s Project has become an ongoing personal series (encouraged by the Beautiful Beasties Project 52). Each week we create a new portrait together, to fit a different theme (e.g. “family”, “city” and “summer”). It is a way to flex my creative muscle and most importantly, to bond with my girl.

ABOUT RAGAMUFFIN PET PHOTOGRAPHY

Their determination as they race in pursuit of their favourite ball. The warm lean of their body against yours. The soft pads of their paws, curled up in their favourite spot on your couch. Ragamuffin Pet Photography doesn’t just give you photos that show off what your pet looks like ~ I create artwork that celebrates their soul.

As a former fashion photographer, I once won awards covering runways in New York and London, but my life changed forever when I met my furry girl, Lyra. Now I spend my time cuddling puppies in parks, running with rescues on the beach, and wrangling kittens in the comfort of their own home. Drop by the Ragamuffin blog for more Melbourne Pet Photography Sessions.

How could you not love Lyra when she’s portrayed with so much love? I swear that Caitlin has been here before, she’s so intuitive, passionate and wise for such a young lady, and of course, gloriously gifted at her craft. Caitlin’s “soul sessions” are something not to be missed.. the love and respect in them is just so beautiful!
