Rescue Bull Breeds by Ruthless Photos
If there’s one thing I love about the greater pet community, it’s their ability to give back to the animals they love so much. My latest favourite case in point? The uber-talented pet photographer, Ruth O’Leary. Now while Ruth’s talents are put to use photographing all types of pets, her heart has well and truly been captured by Rescue Bull Breeds – for which she campaigns tirelessly, in an aim to help these gorgeous pups find their own happily ever afters. Here are some of her favourite faces…
Growing up in Ireland I always owned Burmese cats. The neighbours had a Yorkie called Sparky that I loved to play with, so when I moved to Australia in 2004 I intended to get one of each. Somehow my husband Dave and I ended up adopting a Husky with high prey drive so any small dog and cat owning notions went out the window! Shortly afterwards we adopted Angel from Staffy Rescue to keep Ivan company and my obsession with bull breeds began! We now share our home with four rescues (three of which are foster failures).
I am a member of HeartsSpeak and devote much of my spare time to photographing rescued bull breeds to help them find homes. I also run a Facebook page called Bull Breeds in Need where available dogs from all over Australia are listed. It was when adding listings to this page that I spied Bruno (my current muse) on death row at Renbury Farm Animal Shelter with no options. In the blink of an eye he went from being a stray to a foster to a foster failure and now he’s a much loved family pet! He even has his own Facebook page where he has a growing fan club that love to follow his silly antics.
Every year in October I publish a calendar of my 12 best rescued bull breeds photos. These are the lucky ones that got a second chance and are now living new lives in great homes. Unfortunately bull breeds are massively over-represented in pounds and shelters around the country, so all profits from the sales go to help death row or rescued bull breeds in need in Australia. For example, the puppies (2nd top photo) and Quidditch (above photo – bottom right) are still looking for their forever homes.
