When we rescue a dog, we may not always know when their true birthday falls, but this shouldn’t stop us from celebrating.
Here’s a wonderful story of how one person celebrated the joy of rescuing their furry soulmate and how they celebrate their ‘adoption day’ in style.
And of course, being a photographer meant it was all captured on film for the years to come…
Nala rescued me two years ago.
On November 1st of 2014 I had a photography session planned with a friend at a nearby lake. We pulled up at the parking lot, and when I opened my door to get out of the car, Nala jumped in.
I didn’t plan on getting a dog that day, but Nala followed us for the entire shoot, and she even posed for me for some of the shots.
As I wrapped up the session, I led Nala back to my car and drove her to Nashville Metro Animal Care and Control in hopes of finding out that she was microchipped or that someone had been looking for her.
I left her at Metro, and when the staff asked me if I wanted to place an adoption hold on her, I said no. I regretted it immediately. I called them a few days later and stressed the fact that I would love to come back and rescue her once she was available on the adoption floor.
It took 12 days before Nala was ready to go. I was paranoid that she would be put up for adoption before someone called me, so I dropped in a couple of times during the week just to make sure she was still there.
She wasn’t even my dog yet, but I knew she was perfect for our family.
Nala quickly became my best friend. She loves hiking with me and scouting for photo locations, she is a couch potato and enjoys lazy weekends where we catch up on our favorite TV shows (she is a big fan of Dancing With the Stars- she can’t take her eyes off the screen when that comes on), and she gets along with everyone she meets.
She truly is a sweet heart.
I did this birthday session with Nala, because she deserves to be celebrated.
She brings me joy every day, so I just wanted to do something special for her.
