When it comes to makeup, I like to keep it simple, light and fresh – but most importantly I don’t want products that are tested on animals or full of harmful chemicals. The majority of the chemicals used in cosmetics are not safe for animals or for us, many linking to cancer and other diseases. I find that to be scary and so very sad.

Luckily it is getting easier and easier to find natural products that aren’t tested on animals. Many amazing brands are stepping up to make a difference. I couldn’t love that more! The challenge is finding the products that work for you. After all, we still want to look and feel our best!

Here are the items I use on a daily basis, as well as some very thought provoking facts about the cosmetic industry.

Did You Know?

  • Every year millions of animals are tortured for personal care and cosmetic product testing in the U.S.
  • Close to 90% of the animals used aren’t even counted in the official statistics.
  • The $60 billion cosmetic industry is the least regulated industry in the United States.
  • According to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, nearly 900 of the chemicals used in cosmetics are known to be toxic. Many of these being linked to cancer.
  • The European Union has banned 1,200 of these types of chemicals but the U.S. has only banned 10.
  • On average, women absorb up to 5 lbs of toxic chemicals through their skin from cosmetics every year.

In the bag

  •  Super Salve Co. : Organic Coconut Cream – Last spring I stumbled upon this organic coconut cream at my local health food store. I am so happy I bought it because this is truly my favorite face and body lotion to date. I loved it so much I mailed two jars to my mom and aunt. It’s non greasy and super moisturizing, the perfect combination for face and body. A little bit goes a long way so the jar will last a really long time. I bought mine in May and I am just now getting to the half way mark. Win!
  • RMS Lip2Cheek Organic Blush: Demure & Smile – For those who are currently using a creme blush and are looking for a cruelty free and organic alternative, THIS IS IT. I couldn’t love a makeup brand or product more. It gives a soft healthy cheek glow that every woman loves, and can also be used on your lips. It’s packed with color, so you don’t need very much at all. I just use a blush brush to apply a light layer. It comes in several colors, anything made by RMS Beauty is a winner!
  • Eco Tool Blush Brush – Eco Tool’s cosmetic brushes are earth friendly with bamboo handles and 100% cruelty free bristles! Available in a variety of brush sizes and packaged in reusable, recycled pouches.
  • RMS Organic “Un” Cover-up – I’ve tried a lot of concealers in my time, and this by far is the best concealer I’ve ever used. PERIOD. It’s no wonder it is called ‘un’ cover-up – it looks and feels as if you aren’t wearing a thing, but in a good way. I especially love that it’s filled with organic ingredients. Dab little bit of this under your eyes or wherever needed, add a little of the RMS Beauty blush and you’re set!
  • Savannah Bee Company Organic Early Grey Lip Balm  – Most days, a simple feel good lip balm does the trick for me, especially since I work from home. My go-to balm is this certified organic Earl Grey from Savannah Bee Company. It’s light, moisturizing and smells incredible – all you tea drinkers out there know what I mean!
  • Savannah Bee Company Natural Peach Blossom Lip Tint  – I find this Peach Blossom Lip tint perfect for the days when you want bit more color, while still getting that lip balm feel. It has a subtle shimmer to keep things fresh. This lip tint is also available in multiple shades if you’re wanting a warmer hue.
  • RMS Lip Shine in Sublime – For lip color, RMS Beauty’s organic lip shines have you covered. Available in four shades, this lip shine achieves both pigment and gloss. Sublime is perfect for a feminine pop of pink!
