Dogs of the Blogs: lovelucygirl

Nothing makes me happier to find a corner of the internet that is all about being positive. When I first stumbled across lovelucygirl I knew Kayla was a person who not only loved her gorgeous dog Lucy, but loved life! Because isn’t that what it’s all about? Let’s meet this pair that have their joie de vivre on speed dial…

Who: Kayla and Lucy
Where: lovelucygirl
In A Nutshell: lovelucygirl is a lifestyle blog for the everyday girl. It’s a place where I share affordable style, beauty tips, home improvement ideas, DIY projects and the ins and outs of my everyday life. I think (hope) it relates to the normal girl by giving a glimpse into my life and seeing that we really are all the same at heart. We are all trying to be the best person, wife, daughter, friend we can be!

Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging to challenge myself in all areas of my life. Honestly, I was a HUGE online shopper and probably thought I needed to focus my energy else where or I was going to end up broke. SO I thought I would use that energy to create my own little style space that I now call lovelucygirl. It challenges me to come up with outfits that are already in my closet and use pieces that I had completely forgot about.

I also have so many favorite things to share, and why keep those to myself? It is so much fun to share my amazing finds online or a new beauty product that I’ve tried and can’t live without. My husband and I had also recently moved into our first house and I wanted to chronicle all the projects we were working on and the things we were updating. We were newlyweds, on a budget, and I wanted to share how others could update things in their home without having to purchase all new items.

Tell us about Lucy…
LUCY! She is the absolute LOVE of my life (besides my hubby). I could go on about her for days. She is so lovable, kind, sweet, friendly, energetic, carefree, protective and so many other wonderful things. Lucy is a mix between a daschund and a terrier. She is a total sassy-pants but is the best friend I’ve ever had.

She usually stays by my side all day. We wake up together and we play toys while I get ready for work in the mornings. She has the roam of the house while we are gone and greets us with the waggiest tail and lots of kisses when we get home. She sleeps right underneath my arm or on top of my head, when she wants to protect me. She makes us SO happy and I’m not sure what I’d do without her.

If Lucy was a superhero what would her name and power be?
If Lucy was a superhero her name would be Loving Lulu. She would go around solving all the problems in the world and make sure everyone was friends. She’s a total lover.. not a fighter.

How is Lucy involved in your blog?
Lucy is the true inspiration behind lovelucygirl (hence the name, haha). The blog was named after Lucy because she is so happy-go-lucky and light-hearted. She doesn’t have a care in the world and never meets a stranger. She makes everyone around her feel loved.

That is exactly how I want lovelucygirl to be perceived. I want everyone who visits to feel a part of it and be happy they stopped by. Lucy often makes and appearance on the blog and will tell you about what is going on during her life at the moment or tell you about a special puppy product she thinks you might want to try.

What is your idea of a perfect day?
My idea of the perfect day would be to wake up early in the morning, have a huge cup of Starbucks coffee, cuddle with Lucy in the bed while we read our favorite blogs or write our own. Then I would take a little shopping trip with my mom or friends, have a sushi lunch and find the perfect pair of new shoes. After shopping I would come home and take a nap with Lu, wake up and take her on a walk, have a lovely dinner with my hubby and then take a long bubble bath. To end the night I would curl up on the couch with Lucy and the hubby and watch movies.

What is your favourite blog/website and why?
I have way to many favorite blogs to name but a few are The Average Girl’s Guide, Penny Pincher Fashion, Glitter and Pearls and of course Pretty Fluffy. I love them all because I can totally relate to each and every one.

What is your #1 tip for other bloggers?
My number one tip for other bloggers would be to consult with other bloggers that have been doing this for a while. Build a community of blogging friends that you can rely on for advice + ask questions when you are totally confused. The knowledge that experienced bloggers have is SO valuable. Most bloggers are nice and will totally help you out – just send them an e-mail and be yourself!

Kayla’s TOP 5 Pretty & Fluffy picks…
1. Totally, totally love Pet Head’s dry shampoo for Lucy. It is perfect for when she has been playing outside but doesn’t necessarily need a bath. Just spray it on, brush it out and she smells like perfection!
2. I’m obsessed with Buxom’s lip plumper lip gloss. It comes in several colors and lasts stays on all day. Plus it gives your lips that extra boost!
3. Lucy’s favorite Etsy shop is BowWow Couture (pictured). They have the cutest Dog Collars and accessories. Lucy owns a few and proudly recommends them!
4. Can’t leave home without my Michael Kors gold watch! It is a total classic, timeless piece and works with any outfit!
5. I’m a total lover of scarves – in the winter & summer. My favorite ones are from Express. I love their infinity scarves (pictured). They are the perfect length and give just the right amount of fluffness to them.

Dogs of the Blogs: Dog Milk

As a long time reader of Dog Milk, I’m so happy to be sharing a glimpse behind the scenes of this slice of the internet where modern dogs and design meet. Every week managing editor, Capree Kimball, finds the coolest products for savvy pet owners who are after a bit more form and function for their fidos. Plus could her dogs, Wrigley and Smash, BE any cuter? (You have to say that last sentence in a Chandler Bing voice for full effect – that’s on order!) Let’s meet them…

Who: Capree, Wrigley and Smash
Where: Managing Editor at Dog Milk, Deputy Editor at Curbly
In A Nutshell: Dog Milk was brought into this beautiful world in 2010, inspired by Design Milk founder and editor Jaime Derringer’s love for her two modern pups. She felt that there needed to be a place where modern dog owners could discover new products and find what was beyond the chain pet stores. Whether it’s an innovative pet feeder, cool dog tee, or a modern dog bed, we continue to bring the most cutting edge and modern design to dog lovers everywhere!

Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging in 2007 as a way to share and curate all the incredible things I found on the Internet, mostly art, design, and playful products for the modern home. I had just purchased my first home, and was so excited by the idea of decorating and developing my own unique aesthetic!

What is your most popular blog post to date?
Our two-ingredient treat recipe has been a big hit! It’s ridiculously easy to make and there are endless ways to customize it based on your dog’s needs and likes.

Wrigley - Dogs of the Blogs | Dog Milk | Pretty Fluffy

Tell us about Wrigley and Smash…
Wrigley is a 5 year old Miniature Schnauzer and one of the most sensitive and emotionally in-tune dogs on the planet. Plus, he’s got some killer good looks. Smash is an (almost) 4 year old Shih Tzu and a total ham! He’s always happy (and hungry) no matter what.

If you had to describe your dogs in three words, you’d say….
Wrigley: sweet, sensitive, intelligent
Smash: goofy, mellow, happy

If Wrigley and Smash were superheroes what would their names and powers be?
Smash would be “Space Pig”, no question. His special ability would be turning anything he touched into strawberries, his favorite food.

Wrigley would be “Bossy Beard”, a dog that could employ mind control powers to manipulate any living person into rubbing his belly.

Smash - Dogs of the Blogs | Dog Milk | Pretty Fluffy

How are the dogs involved in your blog?
Wrigley and Smash are both involved with testing out exciting new products for our reviews, as well as modeling for some of our DIY projects!

What is your favourite blog/website and why?
I’ve been super obsessed with the site HomeMade Modern lately! They feature really incredible DIY projects for the home that are surprisingly easy and affordable. They’re doing stuff you don’t see on most other sites.

What is your #1 tip for other bloggers?
Write about what you love and what you’re passionate about, don’t just follow trends! Be true to your yourself and your own interests.

Dogs of the Blogs: House of Harvey

When House of Harvey first popped up on the blogging scene, I knew they were destined for great things. With a fab eye for design (editor Steph also writes for Design Sponge) and a unconditional love for pups, House of Harvey is indeed one to watch.

Latest case in point? House of Harvey’s collaboration with online subscription service, Quartlerly Co. Filled with goodies for furry friends and their humans, House of Harvey’s quarterly package is hand picked by Steph for every discerning dog lover. Oh – and did I mention House of Harvey is donating every cent to rescue organisations in LA? Time to meet this fab pair…

Who: Stephanie and Harvey
Where: House of Harvey
In A Nutshell: Dog + Design + Human = Harmony

Dogs of the Blogs | House of Harvey | Pretty Fluffy

Why did you start blogging?
House of Harvey was probably the fourth blog I started in a matter of a year…and it was the only one that stuck. I tried my hand at a graphic design blog, an interior design blog and a food blog, but none ultimately captured my true passion or voice, until House of Harvey came into the picture.

I had always been passionate about dogs, and I was noticing all of the amazing dog-related design that was available, so I decided to mesh the two into a blog.

In recent months, I branched out a bit more and have incorporated some more design/personal interests, and have really begun to make House of Harvey my space for inspiration.

What is your most popular blog post to date?
Halloween is my favorite holiday. So this past year, I decided to get Mr. Harvey in on the fun of celebrating by dressing him up as one of my favorite Disney characters, Carl from UP. The result was uncanny.

Not only does Mr. Harvey have the soul of an 80-year-old, but he looks pretty amazing in thick-rimmed glasses. It is my favorite costume of his by far, and the readers agreed. I don’t know how I will top it this Halloween, but I am ready for the challenge!

Tell us about Harvey…
It seems to be a general consensus that my Mr. Harvey is a “different” looking guy. At least twice a day, while on our walks, we will be stopped by a passerby who has to comment on his unique look. And I’d agree, he is a different looking guy with his Shar Pei and Terrier mixed genes.

But beyond his dashing looks, I’d have to say that his sweet-as-cherry-pie demeanor makes him extra special. If he could cuddle and snuggle all day long (who are we kidding…he does that already), he would. He just wants to be around people, licking, snuggling and playing all day. He truly is the sweetest bundle of fur!

If you had to describe Harvey in three words, you’d say….
Goofy, Charming, Patient – he puts up with a lot of ridiculous photo shoots.

House of Harvey Blog

How is your dog involved in your blog?
The question should be, how isn’t he involved? Mr. Harvey runs the show. While I may be the one selecting what product roundups to post and what creative dog owners to feature, it’s his personal charm and amazing face that keeps the blog looking good.

What is your idea of a perfect day?
A perfect day would consist of a morning coffee in the sun, a visit to the dog beach with Mr. Harvey, an afternoon crafting session, a hike in the hills, a long dinner with friends, a bubble bath while watching my favorite romantic comedy, and a good book to put me to sleep.

What is your favourite blog/website and why?
Oh goodness…this is a dangerous question because I think I visit approximately 57 blogs on the daily. But I’d have to say that working with the amazing team at Design*Sponge for the past three years has been a dream! To be part of such a creative and inspiring team is the best a girl could ask for.

What is your #1 tip for other bloggers?
I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some AMAZING blogger trailblazers in my time. They have truly paved the way for bloggers to make a living off of their passions. So in learning from them and my own persona trials in blogging, I can say that my ultimate tip is to stay true to your voice.

There are millions of blogs out there (and more popping up each day), so it can be overwhelming and at times disheartening when no one notices yours. But if you keep true to your voice and remember the reasons for starting your blog, you will succeed.

Stephanie’s TOP 5 Pretty & Fluffy picks…

1. LaLa Berlin Scarf (Pictured) – I have a bit of a scarf obsession. I think they make for the perfect accessory, weather casual or a bit more dressed up. This mint green and owl print one is just perfection!
2. Knot Ring – When it comes to jewelry, I like to keep it simple. This ring is the essence of classic and charming to me.
3. Dog Bowl Decorative Dish – I love a quirky mix of canine and home decor. This adorable dish would look great adorning any mantle or table
4. Quarterly Co./House of Harvey Package (Pictured) – I partnered with Quarterly Co. to curate awesome dog/dog-design products for pups and humans to enjoy. I thought it was a brilliant idea to bring some of my roundups off of the screen and into your homes, with all of my commission dollars going to rescue organizations in the Los Angeles area.
5. Urbanest Dog Bed – I’ve lately become obsessed with incorporating patterns into my home, and I think this comfy dog bed would make both Mr. Harvey and I very happy.

Dogs of the Blogs: Urban Flip Flops

Do you ever get a big smile on your face when you discover a blog that just radiates sunshine off the page? That’s how I felt when I came across Urban Flip Flops. Becca’s blog documents the hidden gems and bits of pretty of every day life as she ‘flips flops’ her way from Washington DC, to Florida and now off to London! With a penchant for entertaining, weddings and the colour pink, this is one joy filled site. All that with the bonus of a hands down adorable sidekick named Sir Oliver. Love. It. Everyone, please give a big welcome to Becca and Oliver…

Who: Rebecca and Oliver
Where: Urban Flip Flops
In A Nutshell: A City Girl’s Journey to the Beach and Back. A lifestyle blog of my life from the city to the beach and now back to the city: travels, fashion, recipes, local events, & party ideas.

Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging when I moved from Washington D.C. to Florida to be with my “beau”. My girlfriends kept are always emailing me asking me about what store they should check out for a new pair of colored jeans, any ideas on restaurants to go to when they are traveling, any new blogs to read for style inspiration. I thought it would be fun to start blogging and sharing ideas I found while also incorporating my life changes from living in the city to living near the beach. I am moving across the pond to London in a month and can not wait to expand the site with even more features!

What is your most popular blog post to date?
I would have to say that my post titled BIG CHANGES was a favorite to me. I had been keeping my move to Florida a secret and I was so excited to share with everybody that I was moving, however after living in Washington for 7 years, I was also a bit scared. I also loved introducing Oliver and Beau’s and my photoshoot at the fair!

Tell us about Oliver…
Oliver is a 16 month old Australian Shepard puppy. We were not planning on getting a dog right away and a friend emailed me with a picture of him titled, “Puppy needs a home”. He was too cute! I forwarded the email to my boyfriend and received a response back, “When can we meet him?”. Two days later, Sir Oliver of Leon was home with us {we live on Ponce de Leon Drive so I thought he should be royal and the Sir of the neighborhood!}! He is my best buddy and keeps us laughing all of the time. Even when he is running around the house with a fancy shoe {big mistake} I can’t help but laugh at how cute he looks. Oliver is just a happy dog! He loves making new friends at the dog parks and it never fails that when we are out for a walk, that people stop me and say “Your dog is so sweet”. Thats right, he’s my buddy, …ok did I just go off on how great he is, because he is!

If you had to describe Oliver in three words, you’d say….
Sweet, Playful, Smart.

How is your dog involved in your blog?
Oliver makes an appearance on the blog here and there. He is my little office mate, laying at my feet when I am typing away and also laying his head on my lap when it is time for me to close up for the day. I would say, follow my Instagram feed and you will usually see a photo a day of Oliver, he is a little supermodel!

What is your idea of a perfect day?
Starting with Beau and I taking Oliver for a bike ride, going out for a long lazy breakfast, laying by our backyard pool for a couple of hours and playing fetch with Oliver. Getting caught up on blogs, reading some magazines, catching up with friends and cooking up a big dinner at home with some nice wines, followed by a movie at home. Some of the best days I feel like are unplanned and usually end up going here and there. I really love being home with my two boys: Beau and Oliver.

What is your favourite blog/website and why?
Wow, I am not sure how to answer this one because I tend to follow and really enjoy so many. I would have to say, Camille Styles. I love the design, the layout and the content. Camille updates the site two to three times a day with recipes, party ideas and style. She is for sure an inspiration on my site.

What is your #1 tip for other bloggers?
Do not think about it too much and look at what everyone else is doing and you are not. I know I struggle with that. I try to be consistent in sharing ideas and items that I love. There are places on the internet for everyone, I have met some great people through blogs and found some great inspirations! The more you blog, the more you will connect with fabulous people.

Rebecca’s TOP 5 Pretty & Fluffy picks…

1. My photos of Oliver that Doggy Studio captured last year (Pictured). I had a photo shoot at my house with Oliver as a surprise for my boyfriend for Christmas. I think that Shelly did an AMAZING job at capturing my little puppy and I will forever cherish these sweet photos! Shelly specializes in dog photography and she is fantastic!!!
2. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine - I have this lipstick in multiple shades and can not get enough! I absolutely love it! I am a complete lipstick junkie and always have one of these in my purse. It is a great lipstick that is sheer and shiny for every day wear.
3. Martha Stewart Wedding Magazine - I am also an editor for a Florida Wedding Blog, Floridian Weddings, I also plan weddings and have been working in the events industry for 8+ years. I love being inspired by this magazine!
4. Kate Spade Weekly Planner (Pictured) – I have been buying this planner for YEARS. There is still something I love about writing on a day planner. Recently I travel so much that I need to see everything written down to make sure Oliver has play dates, dog walker scheduled, everything is planned for the move, dinner dates, workouts, I love writing in my Kate planner!
5.  Silly Buddy Dog Bow Ties (Pictured) – how cute are these dog collars with bow ties!!!! Sir Oliver wore a red one on his birthday, however I am thinking for our move to London he made need a new one to wear around the city and show how dapper he is.
